Soft Sugar Cookies

Soft Sugar Cookies with buttercream frosting are loved all year round at my house and no major holiday feels complete without them! So here’s my recipe for soft sugar cookies that everyone will love!

We never and I mean never have any of these cookies go to waste at our house or last more than a few hours actually. In fact, I had to hide the last 2 cookies from my kids so I could grab a quick picture (picture below) before they disappeared.

If you do want to freeze this dough for future cookies you can do so by placing dough in a zip lock bag and it will store for about 3 months. You can pull it out of the freezer a few hours prior to rolling out the dough.

What you need to make soft sugar cookies:

Makes 2 dozen extra large round sugar cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Blend sugar with butter, add eggs, vanilla and sour cream.
  3. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. Add flour mixture to the wet mixture and stir until everything is well incorporated.
  5. Freeze batter for 20 minutes.
  6. Flour a surface and gently roll out the cold dough, dusting with more flour as needed.
  7. Roll to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out dough and place on a greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes. You don’t really want any color to the cookie, it will be super soft when you take it out but will be perfect when it cools.
