Ingredients
1poundground mild or country sausage
2tablespoonssalted butter
3/4teaspoonsalt - more to taste
1/4 - 1/2teaspoonblack pepper- if you like a little spice from black pepper do 1/2 teaspoon
Optional - 1/4 teaspoon rubbed or ground sage
dash of cayenne pepper
4cupsmilk of choice
1/2cupcream or half and half
2tablespoonscornstarch
2tablespoonswater
Instructions
In a large skillet, add ground sausage, butter, salt, black pepper, sage, and cayenne pepper saute until cooked through. Break sausage up into small crumbles for a less chunky gravy.
Add milk, cream and stir together.
Bring to a boil and boil for roughly 3 minutes.
Whisk together the cornstarch and water in a dish and whisk into your gravy.
Cook until gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
Taste and add additional salt and pepper to taste or if the gravy over reduced add a little more milk to balance it out.
