Vanilla Birthday Cake

Here is an easy vanilla birthday cake recipe that is perfect for birthdays or any occasions. It’s simple to make and I even have my kids help along with the process when they want to. It’s a dump, mix, bake and frost kind of cake.

I used Oreos buttercream, which is my best buttercream frosting recipe with oreos mixed in (recipe below) and chocolate ganache on the cake pictured in this post.

It goes perfectly with any frosting or even a dusting of powdered sugar and or fresh fruit or chocolate ganache. Here are a few of my favorite frosting recipes:

How to make vanilla birthday cake:

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Grease and dust pans with shortening or butter and flour , use either 3 – 8 or 2 – 9 inch cake tins or 1 large rectangular baking pan (around a 4 quart).
  3. In a bowl, add sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs and mix together.
  4. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt to the butter mixture, along with the milk and whisk together until everything is well mixed.
  5. Pour into desired baking pan and bake a large rectangular cake for 30-35 minutes, 8 inch rounds for about 30- 35 minutes and 9 inch rounds for roughly 25 minutes. When cakes are risen in the middle, check the centers with a tooth pick to see if they come out clean.
  6. Cool, frosting and enjoy.
