Ham and Cheese Bake

Ham, cheeses, caramelized onions and ranch dressing fill these homemade dough rolls to make these ham and cheese bakes.

Ingredients

  • For Dough:
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • For Caramelized onions:
  • 1 small onion - finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • dash black pepper
  • Filling:
  • 2 cups ham - chopped
  • 4 ounces melted cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese - more for on top
  • Egg Wash:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 F.
  • In a mixing bowl combine, warm water, yeast, oil, salt, sugar and flour and mix well.
  • Knead for 2 minutes then set aside while you prepare the onions and fillings.
  • In a sauce pan, add onions, olive oil and black pepper and sauté for a few minutes until the onions are caramelized.
  • Add the onions to a bowl with the ham, melted cream cheese (microwave to melt), ranch dressing, mustard, cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese.
  • Roll out the dough into a large rectangle with the dough fairly thin.
  • Cut into 5 large strips, lay the filling down the center of each section of dough.
  • Fold the side of the dough over the filling and fold over the other side of dough and fold up the ends so the filling is completely covered.
  • Place dough seam down on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet with space between each roll for the dough to rise while cooking.
  • Mix together the egg wash and brush the tops of the dough and sprinkle the tops with grated parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before enjoying.
