Lower Carb Orange Almond Scones

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 6 tablespoons butter - cold
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • For the baked on glaze:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 F.
  • Combine the almond flour, flour, baking powder, sugar and orange zest together in a large bowl.
  • Add cold butter into flour mixture and roughly mix it in, until pea sixed for larger chunks of butter are in the flour.
  • Add the eggs, orange juice, milk and orange extract to flour mixture and stir until well combined.
  • Dump mixture onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and form into a dome.
  • Add slivered almond on top and all around on the scone dome.
  • Mix together all of the glaze ingredients and set aside.
  • Bake scone 10 minutes, then add glaze on top of scones and bake for 12 minutes more or until center of scone is cooked and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • cut into wedges and enjoy!
