Chocolate Sour Cream Cake

Delicious chocolate cake great for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk - to make your own buttermilk add 1 teaspoon vinegar to 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Grease and dust in flour 3 - 9 inch round cake pans.
  • Add butter and sugar to a bowl and blend together until smooth.
  • Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla and blend again.
  • In another bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Add dry mixture to the wet mixture, add the buttermilk and blend until smooth.
  • Divide among pans and bake for ~20-22 minutes or until the cakes are cooked through and toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool cakes, level cakes and frost with your favorite frostings.
