Chocolate Sour Cream Cake

- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk - to make your own buttermilk add 1 teaspoon vinegar to 1/2 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Grease and dust in flour 3 - 9 inch round cake pans.
Add butter and sugar to a bowl and blend together until smooth.
Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla and blend again.
In another bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
Add dry mixture to the wet mixture, add the buttermilk and blend until smooth.
Divide among pans and bake for ~20-22 minutes or until the cakes are cooked through and toothpick comes out clean.
Cool cakes, level cakes and frost with your favorite frostings.
