Chinese Five Spice & Orange Chewy Molasses Cookies

Chewy molasses cookies will always remind me of my mom! She made them during Christmas growing up and I love them! This is a fun twist on the traditional cookie and it tastes amazing!

Chinese five spice has cinnamon, anise, fennel, black pepper and cloves in it so the favors work really wonderfully with orange and molasses. These cookies also have an irresistible chew to them! They are a holiday must make! 

What you need

Makes 24 Cookies 

1/2 cup Butter
1 1/4 cups Brown Sugar
1/3 cup Molasses
1 Egg
1 tablespoon Vanilla
1 teaspoon Orange Zest 
1 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice 
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
Dash of Nutmeg
2 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt 
1/4 cup Powdered Sugar

Instructions

Preheat Oven to 375 F. 

In a mixing bowl, combine butter, brown sugar and molasses and blend until the mixture is well blended together.

Add the egg, vanilla, orange zest, Chinese five spice, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg and blend until smooth.

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt and stir together. 

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and blend until smooth. 

Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch round balls. Roll balls in powdered sugar then place on a greased cookie sheet. Press cookies down with 2 fingers so they are disc shapes. 

Bake for 8-10 minutes. Enjoy!
