Apple Cider Doughnuts

I love fall and I always want doughnuts for some reason! These Apple cider doughnuts are delicious and taste like fall! Homemade doughnuts take a little time but they are delicious and fun to make.

These doughnuts can be fried or baked and have a soft and tender interior. The dough is slightly sweet but a good balance to a sweet glaze. I like to make a apple cider and cream cheese glaze that tastes extra delicious. That recipe is included below.

Apple Cider Cream Cheese Glaze

Instructions

  1. Add warm water and yeast in a bowl and wait 2 minutes.
  2. Add eggs and vegetable oil to mixture and blend.
  3. Pour in apple cider.
  4. In another bowl, add cinnamon, salt, sugar and flour and sift together.
  5. Add to liquid mixture, adding more flour if dough is too wet or sticky.
  6. Knead for 5 minutes or until dough is elastic and worked through.
  7. Cover bowl and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Roll out dough to about 3/4 inch thickness and cut out doughnuts.
  9. Place on a piece of parchment paper and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
  10. For frying: Heat oil up to 375 F. and fry doughnuts for roughly 30 seconds on each side or until they are golden brown.
  11. Remove from oil and place on a cooling rack or paper towel.
  12. For baking: Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake for 13-15 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  13. Whisk together the butter, cream cheese, vanilla, powdered sugar, milk, apple cider, cinnamon and nutmeg and blend until smooth.
  14. Dip each doughnut in the glaze. Enjoy!

  • Doughnuts:

  • 2 ounces cream cheese – softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider – more to thin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • dash nutmeg
