Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

These homemade peanut butter cups are a favorite at our house. My husband is as big of a peanut butter cup fan as I’ve seen and my kids follow suite after him. I love them too.

These are a tasty, easy, fun and delicious treat we all enjoy making. They also require no cooking or baking so they are easy enough for a child to make and my eleven year old loves to make them by herself.

You can use smooth or chunky peanut butter, dark, semi-sweet, white or milk chocolate or a mix of different kinds. The ones pictured here are semi-sweet in the bottom and the tops are milk chocolate.

What you need to make these homemade peanut butter cups:

Makes 12 extra large peanut butter cups

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter – smooth or chunky
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter – softened
  • 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers – about 4 graham crackers
  • Pinch of salt
  • Splash of vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate chips – milk, dark, semi-sweet or white
  • 12 cupcake liners

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add peanut butter, powdered sugar, butter, graham crackers, salt and vanilla extract and blend together until it forms a dough.
  2. divide dough into 12 balls, then press down into slight discs.
  3. Prepare your cupcake liners in a cupcake tin or just on their own.
  4. Melt chocolate in microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring after each 30 seconds until chocolate is melted and shiny or heat chocolate in a double boiler (A heat proof bowl over a boiling pot of water, stir until chocolate melts)
  5. Spoon a little chocolate into the bottom of the cupcake liner.
  6. Add the peanut butter mixture on top of the bottom layer of chocolate.
  7. Spoon chocolate over the rest of the peanut butter until it’s covered.
  8. mid using a cupcake tin, bang it again the counter and move from side to side so any air bubbles come to the top and the chocolate settles smoothly across the top.
  9. Place in freezer for about 10 minutes or until chocolate is firm.
  10. Remove from freezer and enjoy!
  11. keep leftovers in refrigerator to keep the chocolate firm because we didn’t temper it or on the counter if you want your chocolate a little softer.
