Orange Pecan Bread

This orange pecan bread is delicious and has a retro feel to it, with the orange zest that goes into the batter and gives this bread a vibrant and delicious orange flavor and the hunks of pecans that are spread through the bread. It’s not overly sweet, but just enough to keep you wanting more.

This recipe is an adaptation to a recipe I found in my great grandma Ila’s recipe book that was a collection of her and her sisters recipes and later compiled by a relative of mine. This is my version of their recipe with a few tweaks.

I love how this bread makes your house smell, it’s sweet and warm and I love it! Reminds me of the safe and precious feeling of being home or in a place with those who love and care about you.

Makes 1 standard bread loaf

  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 4 tablespoons butter – melted
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Add the orange zest, butter and sugar together and mix well.
  3. Add the salt, baking powder, eggs, flour and orange juice together and mix until a thick batter forms.
  4. Add the pecans and mix them into batter.
  5. Grease a bread pan and/or line with parchment paper and add the batter to pan.
  6. Bake for roughly 1:05 to 1:10 minutes or until the center of the bread is risen and feels baked through.
  7. Let bread cool completely, slice and enjoy.
