It’s perfect to spread over toast or fresh bread, English muffins, bagels with cream cheese, top pancakes and waffles, use in pear crisps or pear desserts. It tastes good with peanut or nut butter on a sandwich and it’s even great to eat a few spoons full just because you need something yummy!

This pear butter recipe can be made in the instant pot or a pressure cooker and that will take about 1 hour of cook time. You really can’t beat that time when it comes to making any kind of fruit butter! The instant pot really speeds this process up!

Making this recipe in the crock pot or slow cooker.

This recipe can also It can also be made in a crock pot or clow cooker or the instant pot on the slow cooker setting. It takes roughly 8 hours to make it that way and it will honestly provide the best smells during the whole cook time!

Making this recipe on the stove top.

This recipe can also be made on the stove top and that will take roughly 4 hours for it to simmer down into a nice and silky thick pear butter.

To create a really silky pear butter, you will need to use an immersion blender. It works best to get the pears to combine and create a smooth butter.

This recipe has cloves in it, which gives it a signature holiday feel to it. I personally love how it compliments the flavors of the pears but I know some people are not fans of the clove flavor. If you don’t love it, then leave it out. I promise this recipe will still taste great without the cloves added.

What you need to make The Best Instant Pot Spiced Pear Butter Recipe:

Makes roughly 6 cups of pear butter

  • 5 pounds pears – peeled, cored and sliced into large chunks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • pinch of cloves (this gives it a strong holiday feel, if you don’t love cloves then you can leave these out)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions for pressure cooker or instant pot:

  1. Add pears, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and water to the instant pot or pressure cooker.
  2. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes.
  3. Do a quick release, we want the steam to come out and not settle back into the pot.
  4. Open lid when safe and bring mixture to a boil, reduce to a low rolling boil and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. With an immersion blender, blend the mixture until smooth.
  6. Simmer the sauce for another 10 minutes or until the butter is thick and when pushed with a spoon the mixture keeps the ripple from the spoon without filling back in.
  7. Allow to cool and store in a jar in the refrigerator or water bath can this in glass jars for 10 minutes.

Instructions for crockpot or slow cooker:

  1. Add pears, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and water to crockpot.
  2. Cook on high for 4 hours.
  3. Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 3 hours.
  4. Blend with an immersion blender and cook for another hour on high or until the mixture is thick and a ripple made with a spoon will stay and not fill back in immediately.
  5. Allow to cool and store in a jar in the refrigerator or water bath can this in glass jars for 10 minutes.

Instructions for stove top:

  1. Add pears, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and water to a large stock pot.
  2. Heat and stir mixture on medium-high heat for 30 minutes or until pears start to release their juices, add additional water if pot gets too dry and pears don’t release their juice, you don’t want any scorching on the bottom of the pan.
  3. Once juices can be seen, cover and let mixture simmer for 1 hour on low heat, stirring frequently so it doesn’t burn.
  4. When pears are soft and tender, remove lid from pot and simmer for 1-2 hours or until juices start to evaporate and pears start to fall apart.
  5. Blend with an immersion blender and simmer for another 30 minutes or until a ripple made with a spoon will stay and not fill back in immediately.
  6. Allow to cool and store in a jar in the refrigerator or water bath can this in glass jars for 10 minutes.
